The bassist has used the popular internet trope, ‘How it started... how it’s going...’ to give fans further insight into his cancer diagnosis and treatment.
On his Instagram Stories earlier this week (August 25th), the Blink-182 star posted a screenshot, captioned “How it started…”, of a text conversation between himself and his doctor from back in April. It shows Mark’s concerned message: ““For the past couple days I’ve had this dull sore lump in my shoulder kind of right where it connects to my neck that could either be fatal lymphoma or a sore muscle. At what point should I be concerned and have it looked at?”

The message shows that he was advised to come in to be looked at later that day. In June, the musician told his fans that he had started chemotherapy, and later revealed that his classification was “diffuse large B-cell lymphoma Stage 4-A”.
Following the screenshot of his text exchange with his doctor this week, his next Instagram Story was a photo of himself sitting in a hospital chair, captioned “How it’s going...”

Towards the end of July, the bassist updated his fans with positive news, saying, “Scans indicate that the chemo is working! I still have months of treatment ahead, but it’s the best possible news.”
Sharing the news via Twitter, he continued, “I’m so grateful and confused and also sick from last week’s chemo. But the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of people around me are destroying this cancer.”
Hoppus has since shared more updates regarding his chemotherapy on Twitter. On August 5th, he posted a photo, saying “Chemo round five. Let’s heckin’ go”.
Three days later. He wrote: “Sometimes when the effects of the chemo are strong and the steroids are overwhelming, and my heart races, I feel like I can HEAR the valves in my veins opening and slamming shut with each heartbeat.”
As always, fans have been flooding the Blink-182 star’s replies with positive comments. One said: “Brave!! Love you Mark. You’re going so well.”
Another added: “We’re with you the whole way!”
Several others shared their own experiences. One person wrote: “Mark, I just finished Round 5... these first two days after... tired, weak, hands cramping. The thrush Nauseated face. But it will get better. Hang tough Mark, good days and bad days we will get through this... because we have to. It’s that simple.”
