Get ready to dance, get ready to jive, get ready to have the time of your life, because ABBA look set to drop new music for the first time in nearly four decades.
In a cryptic post on Twitter, which has got fans saying “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” the poptastic quartet, Anni-Frid, Björn, Benny and Agnetha, have teased a new project.
Posting on their ABBA Voyage Twitter account, the group pointed fans in the direction of a new website, saying: “Join us at abbavoyage.com #ABBAVoyage,” along with four glowing rings and the date 02/09/21.
It is expected that the four-piece are finally launching their live hologram experience, which was first announced all the way back in 2016. According to The Sun, the show will feature holograms of Swedish group’s younger selves, termed “Abba-tars”, beamed on stage performing bangers from their back-catalogue.
But that’s not all. There will apparently be new songs as well!
A source told The Sun: “Abba are finally making their comeback and plan to release their first new music in 39 years next Friday — it’s huge.”
A purpose-built theatre in East London will house Abba Voyage, which is due to open next May. It will include a new documentary-style film, and according to The Sun’s source, “will feature the Abba-tars performing and speaking to the audience. It will be like taking a step back in time for those watching.”
Unsurprisingly, fans on social media are getting very excited about the upcoming announcement.
One said: “It is the most important musical news of the Century!”
Someone else added: “If ever there was a year the world needs new Abba music it's this one.”
Another fan said: “Something's coming!!!!! Waited 39 years and now I'm like a kid again. Exciting times.”
So, be sure to keep your eye on ABBA’s social media channels next Thursday. Hopefully we’ll all be saying: “Thank you for the (new) music.”
