Having shared his gruelling cancer journey with fans via social media, the latest update from Mark Hoppus is the one that we were all longing to hear.

The 49-year-old bassist was diagnosed with stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma earlier this year, but yesterday (29th September) he announced that he is “cancer free” following chemotherapy.

Taking to his Instagram and Twitter, the musician wrote: "Just saw my oncologist and I’m cancer free!! Thank you God and universe and friends and family and everyone who sent support and kindness and love.”

He continued: "Still have to get scanned every six months and it’ll take me until the end of the year to get back to normal but today is an amazing day and I feel so blessed. Can I get a W in the chat?"

Fans were overjoyed at the news. One person wrote on Twitter: “I didn’t cry reading this. Not even a little. What are you looking at? I’m chopping onions! Seriously tho, CONGRATS!!!!”

Someone else said: “Best news of the year!”

Another person added: "This is the news we have all been waiting on and hoping for.”

Other people took the opportunity to share their owns stories. One person said: “Amazing news dude! I’ve been following your journey very closely, my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer last August and the ups and downs have been crazy. Today is a good day though.”

Over the past few months, Mark had been sharing details of his cancer treatment, including the concerned message that he sent his doctor, which led to him being diagnosed. The text read: "Hi Jill. For the past couple days I’ve had this dull sore lump in my shoulder kind of right where it connects to my neck that could either be fatal lymphoma or a sore muscle. At what point should I be concerned and have it looked at?"

Mark also shared pictures of himself hooked up to a chemotherapy machine, and in July, wrote on Twitter: “Had chemo on Wednesday and felt like hot garbage and haven’t really slept since. But this morning, this minute right now, I feel okay. I’ll take it.”

Last week, he wrote: “Walked three and a half miles, my energy and mood are better, and I find out next week if the chemo worked.”

Congratulations on the great news, Mark!
