When Sir Elton John recently said that he’d like to work with “the best rock 'n' roll artist there is,” you’d perhaps have been forgiven for thinking that he was talking about one of the Gallagher brothers. But, in fact, he says that this artist “makes Oasis sound like a calm palm trio”.

The Rocket Man had a chat with LADbible, and when asked if there were any artists that he has yet to collaborate with, but would like to, he said: “Sam Fender. He's a British rock 'n' roll artist who's the best rock 'n' roll artist there is. He makes Oasis sound like a calm palm trio. He is brilliant."

Sam Fender has just launched a new album, Seventeen Going Under, and the 27-year-old rocker has recently announced his biggest ever run of UK headline dates, including a show at London’s Wembley Arena and a huge homecoming show in Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Sir Elton has also just dropped his new album, The Lockdown Sessions, in which he collaborates with many big name artists, including Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Gorillaz, and Stevie Wonder. Presumably he’ll be aiming to record something with Sam Fender if he makes another one.

During the chat with LADbible, in which the legendary musician was joined by American singer, songwriter, and producer Charlie Puth at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, Elton also spoke about what he would change from his career. “I wouldn't have taken as many drugs,” he said.

Sir Elton added: “Although I continued to work when I took drugs, I didn't make my best work, some of the time. I never really wanted to take drugs, I just joined in for the sake of it and it became an addiction. I became an addict and alcoholic and I've since, you know, learned my lesson but I would if I could go back to when I first saw a line of cocaine I would say no now.”

On a slightly lighter note, the artist spoke about his post-show eating habits. “It's very hard to eat after gigs because it's very bad to eat that late at night so I might have a handful of almonds and a glass of water, which is really boring, where I'd love to have a pizza,” he admitted.

Sir Elton recently had to postpone his upcoming 2021 UK and European The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023, due to a hip injury.
