Fans are hoping it means a new album is on the way.

Green Day have sent their listeners into a frenzy, after teasing them with a post on Instagram.

The 'Good Riddance' rockers have got their fans wondering if a new album is on the way, after teasing new music on social media.

The band shared a short clip of them recording music at London’s RAK Studios, and fans think the music they can hear is a new song.

During the clip, the numbers “1972” appear on the screen.

Wannabe sleuths have been figuring out what on earth it could mean.

Some fans think it might be the name of a new song or possibly a whole new album.

One perceptive fan noticed that all of the band members were born in 1972.

“1972? 50th birthday special?” asked one fan.

Could it be a 50th birthday music release?

Another fan said: “I guess that rumour about Billie telling a fan that they’re releasing new music soon is true…”

The band’s last album was 2020’s ‘Father Of All Motherf*******’.

Billie-Joe has been keeping busy though with other side projects, and they've also been celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 'Kerplunk' record.

Fans will have to wait and see.
