Taylor Swift knows a thing or two about selling records, and her generosity and constant creativity with physical media is finally being recognised.

She’s just been named Record Store Day’s 2022 global ambassador to mark 15 years of the celebrated music event.

This year, Record Store Day will commemorate the big birthday on 23rd April, and organisers say Taylor, who’s previously released exclusive RSD records, will also put out a special RSD vinyl to mark the occasion.

In a statement, Taylor said: “I’m very proud to be this year’s Ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me.

“Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion. They create settings for live events. They employ people who adore music thoroughly and purely.”

“We need to support these small businesses more now than ever to make sure they can stay alive, stay eccentric, and stay individual. It’s been a true joy for me to watch vinyl sales grow in the past few years and we, the artists, have the fans to thank for this pleasant surprise. Happy Record Store Day, everyone! Stay safe out there.”

Taylor has a long history with RSD and helping out the physical music community. Her record editions of Red (Taylor’s Version), Evermore and Folklore were three of the best-selling vinyl albums of 2021, according to Official Charts.

Not only that, but Taylor helped independent record stores around the world when the coronavirus pandemic first started by sending out signed editions for Evermore and Folklore to help boost their sales.

She also personally donated to Grimey’s New & Preloved Music's record store, local to her home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Carrie Colliton, co-founder of RSD, continued in the statement: “We’re pretty picky about the people we invite to ‘wear the sash’, and we always want to make sure those Ambassadors genuinely love record stores and are creative about ways to celebrate them.

“For our 15th Record Store Day, and for our first Global Ambassador, we’re teaming up with a woman who does all that and just happens to be one of the biggest artists on the planet.”

Record Store Day will take place on 23rd April - with a full list of special releases still to come.
