In news we didn’t see coming, it seems Ed Sheeran is turning his hand to something a bit heavier next.

After setting the stage alight with his surprise collaboration with heavy rockers Bring Me The Horizon, it turns out the performance wasn’t the only thing they had on the books.

While chatting to the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column (and as reported by Bang Showbiz), Ed revealed: “We're going to write a song together... Playing with Bring Me The Horizon was a dream.

“I got in touch with [singer Oli Sykes] and we were going to write together but then the pandemic happened, so we were in touch - I've been a fan for a long time.”

It turns out Ed has been thinking about trying out something with a heavier sound for a little while, having grown up listening to similar music.

He added: “Oddly enough that's the kind of music I grew up listening to and had a Kerrang subscription and I listened to it constantly."

Ed and BMTH kicked off the BRITs with a heavy cover of Bad Habits, which the A Team singer was originally worried about, given it’s a dance track that could potentially fall flat.

He joked: “I actually said 'Bad Habits' would be a bit of a wet fart if I was just going up there and playing it normally.

"The song is EDM and they've taken it and made it a whole new thing. I was just like, you know what, these guitars are going to be great.

"It was a week's turnaround - we emailed each other two weeks ago, recorded it a week ago and rehearsed it three days ago."

We are all here for Ed’s rock reinvention, but in the meantime, fans can look out for another collaboration with famous pal Taylor Swift.

Listeners had been wondering whether Taylor would make an appearance on his song 'The Joker And The Queen'.

Speaking to LADbible, Ed confirmed his next single “comes out on Friday and it’s with Taylor Swift”.

"We’re literally announcing that in like an hour,” Sheeran said, as the internet exploded with excitement.

It turns out that fans were correct, and the duo has worked on an updated version of his track ‘The Joker And The Queen’.
