Jack Johnson has announced that his new album, Meet the Moonlight, will be out this summer. And if that weren’t exciting enough for fans, the hitmaking singer-songwriter has dropped the first single from it.

One Step Ahead arrives in advance of Johnson’s eighth studio album. The long-awaited LP, which follows 2017’s All The Light Above It Too, is set to land on June 24th via Brushfire/Republic Records and was produced by Blake Mills, known for his work with Lana Del Rey and Weezer.

In a statement, the mega-selling Hawaiian artist said: “When Blake and I first got in touch, we’d send each other playlists, and over time we realised we were drawn to music that sounds effortless despite all the effort put into making it.”

Johnson continued: “After a while, we got a language together and I gained a trust in him that allowed me to let go, push outside my comfort zone, and get to a sound I really loved.”

When speaking about new single One Step Ahead, which is out now, the former professional surfer said: “We’re at a point where human nature hasn’t changed but the technology around us has changed dramatically, and it’s getting to this dangerous place where the most extreme and sensationalised opinions have the potential to be heard by so many people.”

You can listen to One Step Ahead below:

Speaking in more detail about the song, an in particular the chorus, Jack said: “That line in the chorus is about trying to breathe through the noise and get to a calmer place, which seems important when we’re seeing a lot of friends lose trust and grow away from each other because they disagree over some issue or another.”

This new single has definitely got us excited about the arrival of the new album in June!
