Comedian Munya Chawawa will host the Music Week Awards for the first time later this month.

This year’s awards will take place at Battersea Evolution in London on May 26th, in what Music Week is saying will be its biggest edition so far.

Munya Chawawa is known across social media and on TV for his witty satirical commentary and hilarious personalities, such as posh drill rapper Unknown P and anchorman Barty Crease. The Zimbabwe-born funnyman has also appeared on shows such as Celebrity Masterchef and Sky One’s Dating No Filter.

It’s safe to say the comedian is excited about hosting the awards. “I’m often described as the Kendrick Lamar of Norfolk,” he quipped. “So needless to say: hosting the Music Week Awards on May 26, 2022 feels like my destiny.”

He added: “We all love music, so I’m looking forward to celebrating the achievements of an industry that keeps us all upbeat and afloat.”

Munya is no stranger to hosting award ceremonies, as earlier this year he hosted The Brits Red Carpet, and also took charge of the MOBO Awards for YouTube and BBC One.

The prestigious Music Week Awards are peer-voted and judged by an independent panel of specialist judges. Categories include Independent Record Company Of The Year, Live Music Innovation Of The Year, Independent Retailer Of The Year, and Record Company Of The Year.

Meanwhile, Munya recently reached a whopping million followers on Instagram. He shared a celebratory video post and wrote: “Thank YOU x10000 for rocking with me across 4 years, 325 sketches and a whole bando’s-worth of crazy characters!⁣ There is now one follower for each hair in my left eyebrow and to me: that is the ultimate achievement.

“Feel like celebrating… maybe I’ll have some… Mini Eggs.”

The Music Week Awards 2022 takes place on May 26th at Battersea Evolution in London.
