There’s a brand new Gorillaz song on the way, and the animated band have teased what to expect from it.

At this stage, it hasn’t been announced exactly when the new single Cracker Island will arrive, but a few seconds of it have been shared by the group on social media, and they have reportedly been playing it live during their current world tour.

When Cracker Island arrives, it will represent the first new music from Gorillaz since their Meanwhile EP, which landed to acclaim last year.

The band - of whom Blur’s Damon Albarn is a founding member - announced their new song on Twitter last night (June 7th). The tweet simply said: “Cracker Island is coming…” Whilst there is no official release date, the tweet included a pre-save link, and it also used the mysterious hashtag #thelastcult.

A ten-second video features all of the members of the cartoon group: 2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel.

On Instagram, the band posted a couple of new pictures, with the caption “2D is the chosen one.”

When Gorillaz have played Cracker Island live on their tour, it has featured US musician Thundercat, but it is not known whether he will appear on the recorded version.

Whilst the new song will be their first since 2021, there have been other projects going on in the Gorillaz camp. They have teamed up with Jack Black and Robert Smith for an official art book, which came out in April and, at the end of last year, Damon Albarn said that a Gorillaz film is coming to Netflix.

Let’s keep our ears peeled for the full release of Cracker Island!
