'Master of Puppets' makes chart debut 37 years after release.
The Stranger Things effect has worked it's magic once again!
Last month, Kate Bush - who soundtracks one of Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 1's pivotal scenes - broke three Official Charts records simultaneously after the reclusive singer's 1985 single 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' reached Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.
Now Metallica are the recipients of what we're calling 'The Stranger Things bump', as their 1986 track 'Master of Puppets' - used during Eddie Munson's guitar solo scene in Volume 2 - has made its UK Top 40 debut, 37 years after it was first released.
The title track of the Los Angeles band's 1986 album of the same name has jumped to Number 22 on this week's Official Singles Chart. It's the thrash masters first Top 40 in 14 years; their last being 2008's 'The Day That Never Comes', taken from their album Death Magnetic.
'Master Of Puppets' now becomes Metallica's 20th Top 40 hit to date.
In a recent statement, the band praised Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer for the 'next level' ways in which they've incorporated music into the show.
They said: "[We're] beyond psyched for them to not only include 'Master of Puppets' in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it’.
"We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away.
"It’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer!! How crazy cool is that?"
Who's next to see the spoils of the Strangers Things bump? Falco, the Beach Boys, Moby?
Just know we're writing this while listening to 'Pass The Dutchie' by Musical Youth, eating an ice-cream.
