The Kinks have unveiled a special 50th anniversary combined deluxe reissue of two classic albums, Muswell Hillbillies and Everybody’s In Show-Biz- Everybody’s A Star.
Muswell Hillbillies was first released in November 1971 when the legendary band signed with RCA Records and began pursuing a new sound. The album looks back on Ray and Dave Davies’ London roots and their experiences of growing up in working-class families migrating from war-torn inner cities to the leafy suburbs of North London.
Speaking about the record, Ray said: “Now, with a new record company and a new image, I could bring some of the old wild western spirit into my music.
“These albums capture the re-emergence of the Kinks as a touring band.” Dave Davies adds: “Muswell Hillbillies is one-of my favourite Kink’s albums. It’s a bit of a backstory to the Davies family and the characters involved.”
Everybody’s in Show-Biz- Everybody’s A Star came a year later in 1972, and was written when the band was touring America promoting Muswell Hillbillies, with half of the album coming from their live shows in New York’s iconic Carnegie Hall.
The special deluxe reissues of these records will contain 6 LP’s with new bespoke album art and remastered versions of the original, 4 CD’s including previously unreleased tracks from Ray Davies and a home video from 1971 on Blu-Ray.
It will also include a deluxe hardback book with unseen photos and memorabilia, photos of The Kinks from 1971 and 1972 and a bespoke Kinks RCA era logo badge.
Alongside the reissue of the two albums, the band are releasing Celluloid Heroes (US Single Version 2022 Edit). The track originally appeared on Everybody's in Show-Biz and was penned by Ray, who wrote it as he was reflecting on how everyday people aspire to be Hollywood stars.
This comes as Dave Davies revealed he is "optimistic" about getting the band back together, giving fans hopes for reunion in the near future.
The special 50th anniversary reissues will be released on 9 September and you can pre-order your copy here.
