Marcus Mumford has released a new single titled Better Off High from his self-titled debut solo album.

The singer wrote and recorded the single with Blake Mills and it will feature on his self-titled record, which will be released on 16th September by Island Records.

This marks the Mumford and Sons frontman’s first album as a solo artist and the record has been described as a “deeply collaborative work” that will see him team up with vocalists and co-writers such as Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, Monica Martin, Julia Michaels and Brandi Carlile.

Fans who pre-order the digital edition of the record will instantly receive Better Off High and previously released singles Grace and Cannibal.

Marcus is a founding member of the band Mumford & Sons, who shot to fame in 2009 with their debut album Sigh No More. Since then, they have topped the Billboard 200 with three of their four studio albums and have sold 3.7 million records in the UK alone.

The band have also won various awards, including two BRITS, an Ivor Novello award and two Grammy’s for Album of the Year.

Despite Marcus’ new solo career, there have been no plans for Mumford & Sons to break up and in an interview with Rolling Stone, the frontman said that his fellow band mates had given him the greenlight to try out new things.

He said: “We’ve definitely giving each other the blessing to do whatever feels right creatively. The idea of co-writes doesn’t scare me at all. It’s quite exciting. It feels like I have a lot of business to do with my instruments and my gear, so I’m excited to lean into that in the next year.”
