Avril Lavigne has been honoured with her own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

The pop punk singer appeared at the ceremony yesterday (31st August) wearing the same jumper she wore when she first visited the landmark in LA more than two decades ago and, upon receiving her star, told the crowd: “Follow your dreams, live your passion, express yourself and be real”.

It was a long time coming for many fans of Lavigne, who signed her first record deal at 16.

Her debut album, Let It Go, also became the best-selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist and Under My Skin released in 2004 went platinum.

In 2007, Lavigne dropped The Best Damn Thing, which went to number one in seven countries, and her fourth and fifth studio albums Goodbye Lullaby (2011) and Avril Lavigne (2013), were both certified gold in the US and Canada.

More recently, the singer released Head Above Water in 2019 and returned to her pop-punk roots with Love Sux, which came out earlier this year.

Over her career, Lavigne has sold around 40 million albums worldwide and bagged herself a Guinness World Record for being the youngest female solo artist to top the UK charts.

When she accepted the accolade at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the singer showed the crowd an old picture of herself at the landmark when she was 16 and it was quite adorable.

She said (via Variety): "I can remember seeing these legendary names and I never could have imagined that mine would be here, this is so crazy.

"This is probably one of the coolest days of my life."

She added: "I hope that the next 16-year-old from their small town who comes to Hollywood one day full of hopes and dreams sees this star and thinks to themselves, 'oh my God, my name could be there one day too' – because it can."
