American rapper Lil Baby has released a World Cup 2022 anthem, called The World Is Yours To Take, and on it you will hear the familiar sounds of Tears For Fears.

The track uses an extended sample of the classic song, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, by the legendary Bath duo, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. It will make up part of the official soundtrack for the World Cup, which will take place in Qatar this November and December.

In the build-up to the footy tournament, Lil Baby will release another eight versions of the song, as part of a collaboration with US beer brand Budweiser. The different versions will feature various musicians from other countries that are playing in the finals.

Check out his first version, featuring Tears For Fears, here:

Having been massive hitmakers in the 1980s, Tears For Fears dropped their latest album, The Tipping Point, in February of this year, 18 years after their previous offering, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending.

When speaking to the Graham Norton Show with Waitrose on Virgin Radio upon their latest album’s release, Curt said: “In that period of time, we'd lost our management and we'd lost our record company. All that was left was the two of us. So we sat down and sort of forged a path forward, and started just writing in my house in Los Angeles on two acoustic guitars and going back to the way we used to do things. It was the first time since [debut album The Hurting] that we've done that."

The Hurting was released in 1983 to acclaim, and featured big single, Mad World. Their second album, 1985’s Songs from the Big Chair (1985), was also massive, and featured Everybody Wants to Rule the World, as well as another banger, Shout.

Meanwhile, if you’re not up to date with Lil Baby, the Atlanta rapper entered the mainstream consciousness back in 2017, when he dropped his mixtape Perfect Timing. A year later he released his debut studio album, Harder Than Ever. He has collaborated with the likes of Drake, Nikki Minaj, Kanye West and The Weeknd.

The World Cup 2022 will take place in Qatar from 20th November to 18th December.
