David Walliams has given fans an update on his next project with Little Britain’s Matt Lucas.

Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with webuyanycar about his new book Astrochimp, the comedian and author revealed the pair’s rumoured Little Britain reboot will actually be an entirely new show.

“We’re writing a new show, not Little Britain,” Walliams stressed. “It’s a different show [with] all new characters.”

He then added that while the pair are confident the show will happen: “The deal isn’t done, but we’re still writing it.”

The former Britain’s Got Talent judge wouldn’t reveal where the show might end up being broadcast, instead joking with Chris: “I think OnlyFans! We have a big following [there]!”

Back in December 2023, Matt Lucas also took to X (formerly Twitter) to tell fans that reports of Little Britain’s return were misfounded. “Sorry to disappoint you (or delight you) but the stories in the papers about me and David writing a new series of Little Britain are not true. We're working on a different idea,” he said at the time.

One of the aims of the new show will be to involve more diverse comedic talent at every stage of its creative process, “something we should have done but didn’t do back then," Lucas previously told The Sun.

He shared: “We are talking about how we can have diverse talent on screen and in the writers' room and conceive it as something which is just not about me and David playing absolutely everyone.”

Alongside working on this new series, the former Great British Bake Off host and Walliams have been very busy with other projects recently, such as Lucas’ appearance in last year’s festive musical Wonka and Walliams’ penning of his first ever graphic novel, Astrochimp.

Speaking about the book (his 41st children’s story) with Chris on Friday morning (7th June), the comedic actor shared: “I wanted to [tell this story] for a long time, because you know as a kid, you learn about all the animals that were sent into space… so I sort of thought, what if all these animals were still up there!”

Astrochimp by David Walliams is out now.
