The Grammy Award winner joined the Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky to talk about his surprising new album and the fame train versus changing nappies.
He told Chris: “I really wanted to do something different and it felt like such a natural progression to go into something a bit more organic and a bit more live sounding.
"We wanted people to feel like they were in the room with us when playing it so that's why we recorded the whole thing live in the studio."
How's parenthood compared to being on tour? "It was a beautiful thing at the time, but it's a really fast running train and then once you're off it, you come back home and you're not on tour anymore.
“I’ve snapped back to reality. When I came off tour, I had a very young child at home so I could go home and be Dad. You're not superstar anymore, you've just got to change nappies."
How is he feeling about the album doing well? He said: “I feel a bit more relaxed about it all to be honest. I feel more relaxed and not really worried. Music isn't a cure for cancer; either people like it or they don't and they're subjective and I really like what I've done, I'm really proud of this and I hope they like it."
On the album's inspiration he said: “I had a pretty hairy upbringing. I went pretty crazy as a teenager, fairly crazy in my mid 20s and so this is kind of like a past, present and future and a lot of it's about realising that I've got to grow up a little bit, and I've got to be responsible because I am responsible for another human being now.
"Some of it's a little bit like, I'm slightly worried about the sort of world that my son's gonna grow up in… so it covers a lot of stuff but I really wanted it to tell a bit of a life story.”
