Following a successful collaboration three years ago, Netflix and Sandra Bullock have joined forces again for another movie, and by the looks of the trailer, you’re not going to want to miss it.

The Unforgivable will be Bullock’s first film since 2018’s Birdbox was a smash hit on Netflix. In the new movie, the Hollywood star plays an ex-convict, struggling to cope with being reintroduced to society.

The actor portrays Ruth Slater, who was sent to prison for 20 years after committing a serious, violent crime. Now back in society, she faces judgement and obstacles as she seeks her younger sister, with whom she has lost contact.

If the story feels vaguely familiar, it is because the film is based on Sally Wainwright’s miniseries Unforgiven, from back in 2009. The ITV show starred Suranne Jones as Ruth. Suranne, of course, was recently in deep trouble, literally, in hit BBC drama, Vigil.

The film will be directed by Nora Fingscheidt, and also stars Academy Award-winner Viola Davis, Aisling Franciosi from Game Of Thrones, and Daredevil’s Rob Morgan. The movie also features Vincent D’Onofrio (Men In Black) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Punisher).

Have a look at the trailer, below.

The movie began filming in February 2020, before production was halted by Covid-19. Filming started up again in September 2020.

Speaking about her character in the film, Bullock told Entertainment Weekly: “She wants to find this one person, the only family she had when she went in, and you keep asking yourself, ‘Why can't you let it go? This family member was traumatized by your actions — let it go! Stop harming these people all over again.’”

She continued:  “Finding out the background to the story of why she did what she did is sort of the whodunnit of this.

“It's a murder mystery within a very complex character drama.”

The Unforgivable will land in selected cinemas on November 24th. It will then be on Netflix from December 10th.
