The trailer has already racked up 11 million views on YouTube.

2021 was a great year for the South Korean film industry, with the likes of Squid Game and Hellbound reaping record-breaking success for Netflix.

It looks like this year is set to be the same with the arrival of the first South Korean production of 2022 on the streaming platform.

All Of Us Are Dead is set in a not-too-distant future as a life-threatening virus begins to spread (sound familiar?) and the afflicted start to attack anyone in sight. A group of students finds themselves trapped in their high school as the zombie apocalypse descends, and they are forced to fight for their lives.

It's kind of like Sex Education meets The Walking Dead- but in this series, the zombies can sprint.

If the preview is anything to go by, All Of Us Are Dead will be jam-packed full of violence, gore and some pretty fearless teenagers.

People are already starting to get excited about it, as the trailer, which dropped on 13 January on YouTube, has already racked up over 11 million viewers.

Could this be the next Squid Game?

For Lee Jae-kyoo, director of the series, this will be his Netflix debut however he has some pretty hefty experience under his belt.

Jae-kyoo has previously won awards for his TV series The Beethoven Virus, and in 2019 his comedy Intimate Strangers was included alongside Parasite as one of the 10 best films of the year by the Korean Association of Film Critics.

Starring in the drama will be Park Ji-hoo, who has also won awards for her acting, and joining her among others will be Squid Game alumni, Lee Yoo-mi.

The series was inspired by a widely popular digital WEBTOON comic published between 2009 and 2011 titled ‘Now At Our School’. According to Netflix, the comic by Joo Dong-geun, is: “deemed legendary by fans”.

This series shows Netflix has (finally) caught on to how exciting South Korean productions can be after the success of Squid Game and then Hellbound.

Last year they revealed around $500 million was invested into developing the country’s TV and film. They have also announced plans to release 25 new South Korean originals on the streaming platform in 2022.

All Of Us Are Dead will premiere on Netflix on 28 January 2022.
