Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson to star in upcoming Christmas film Red One

It's Marvel meets DC for this festive action-comedy. 

Chris Evans (the other one) will team up with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for a new festive big-screen adventure, called Red One. 

The Amazon Studios project is described as an ‘action-adventure comedy that imagines a new universe within the holiday genre’ according to Deadline.

Jumanji director Jake Kasdan, who of course worked with the former pro-wrestler on the board game reboot, will be at the helm, while Chris Morgan, of Hobbs and Shaw fame, will be writing the script and co-producing too. 

Dwayne and Chris have shared the screen before, having both had small cameos in Disney’s Free Guy, but this will be the first time they will act alongside each other. 

Dwayne announced the news on his Instagram page and from his caption, we get the feeling he's as excited to star in the film as we are to see it.

In his caption, Dwayne wrote: “Think MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET meets HOBBS & SHAW with a little bit of ITS A WONDERFUL LIFE sprinkled on top. 

“I can’t begin to tell you how much FUN (and FILTHY) our 5 way text chain has already become. I think we’re gonna make a great holiday movie for you and your families around the world to enjoy!”

Meanwhile, Chris reposted the Fast And Furious star’s post on his Instagram story and confirmed ‘the group text chain is already legendary’. 

It seems the two have already put any Marvel versus DC awkwardness behind them. Marvel star Chris made his name playing Captain America, making his final appearance in the MCU back in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. 

Dwayne is a new member of the DC Comics family, starring as Black Adam in an upcoming comic book adventure. 

When sharing the first teaser for the big-budget comic adventure on Twitter, he wrote: “[Black Adam] is ruthless. He is unstoppable. He is the reason the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”

While it would have been fun to see who would win in a fight - Cap or The Rock - we are just interested in seeing these two Hollywood heavy-hitters bring some festive fun to the big screen. We will reportedly see the two team up for Red One in 2023.
