Roll on a new take on the classic movie. The mega director is putting a different spin on the infamous story about the character Frank Bullitt played by McQueen in the 1968 epic offering.

It's thought it won't be a remake of the original but will be based on the no-nonsense San Francisco police officer searching for a mob kingpin that killed his witness.

The McQueen family are on board too with Steve's son Chad and his granddaughter Molly McQueen as executive producers.

The synopsis to Bullitt reads: "Senator Walter Chalmers is aiming to take down mob boss Pete Ross with the help of testimony from the criminal’s hothead brother Johnny, who is in protective custody in San Francisco under the watch of police lieutenant Frank Bullitt.

"When a pair of mob hitmen enter the scene, Bullitt follows their trail through a maze of complications and double-crosses. This thriller includes one of the most famous car chases ever filmed."

Jacqueline Bisset (McQueen's girlfriend Cathy in the original), said recently about her character: "I didn't actually think my role was necessary in that film.

"If Cathy hadn't been there, I don't think it would've made much difference. But I was representing the female in his life and the feminine side of his existence rather than being a fully-fleshed character."

So who will step into McQueen's legendary shoes? Will it be set in the Sixties and will the car chases be a patch on the original?
