Sir PS is back for a second sci-fi serving of the Next Generation spin-off with the opening mind-boggling episode The Star Gazer dropping on Prime Video on 4 March.
So what can we expect from the upcoming 10-episode time-travelling adventure?
Jean-Luc is to encounter another old antagonist while on a time-twisting, mind-bending mission. Picard (Stewart) finds himself back in the 21st century (2024) trying to save the galaxy's future and up against old enemy, Q. Plus there's a little love in the air for him as he continues to explore intense new worlds - mainly his own love life.
“You will see things in Season 2 which will be unexpected and surprising, and it will be romantic,” Stewart told TVLine. “I don’t get to do much romance in my career, and so it’s very, very nice at the age of 81 that I get to play scenes like that with wonderful actors like Orla Brady, who plays Laris."
Whoopi Goldberg is back as Guinan from The Next Generation, as are some familiar faces from the first series including Alison Pill, Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Orla Brady, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, Brent Spiner and Star Trek legend John de Lancie.
De Lancie said about his grilling character Q: “There’s no question in my mind that when I play it, I love Picard and I believe he loves me — but not in a physical way. It is in a way that neither of us can particularly admit, but is there.
“The writers are using the fact that time has passed here as a temporal thing for real, between two actors, as a motivator.
"Season 2 is about an old Picard who does not have much time to come to grips with certain personal issues that he has not dealt with — and the clock is ticking.
“The hidden part of this, which I think you’re getting a little taste of in those opening episodes: is that there’s a clock ticking for me as well.”
Good news for fans. There's a third season already in production and will be available to stream in 2023.
Showrunner Akiva Goldsman recently told SFX magazine: “The door is always open for a season four…but as of now, it’s just three seasons. It was always planned to be three seasons.”
Star Trek: Picard returns to Prime Video on Friday, 4 March.
