Fans have been eagerly awaiting the new series after that explosive finale.

Ever since the police drama aired on BBC One in February last night, fans of Bloodlands have been patiently waiting for a second season.

Well, it looks like they won’t have to wait much longer as James Nesbitt, who stars as Detective Inspector Tom Brannick, has been spotted shooting the second series in Belfast.

The detective can be seen with co-star Lola Petticrew, who plays his on-screen daughter Izzy, and both are sharing worried looks.

After the explosive ending to the first season, it’s no surprise.

The first series is set in Northern Ireland and was created by Chris Brandon, with Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio serving as executive producer.

Bloodlands season one follows DCI Brannick, who is investigating the discovery of a car after it has been pulled out of the Strangford Lough.

When they find a suicide note in the vehicle, Brannick begins to connect the dots and realises the note is related to an infamous old cold case centred around the legendary assassin known as ‘Goliath’.

The show was a huge success and became Northern Ireland’s most-watched BBC drama on record.

After it aired in 2021, the director of BBC Drama Piers Wenger said he was “overwhelmed” by the reaction to the show and said he was “thrilled” to renew it for another season.

Jed Mercurio added: “Everyone at HTM Television is thrilled our debut production has been recommissioned.”

Nesbitt also gave a little teaser about the new installment, stating: “I’m always happy to be back in Northern Ireland and to reveal even more about Tom Brannick.”

Joining Nesbitt for the new season will be Lorcan Cranitch (Jackie), Charlene McKenna (Niamh) and Chris Walley (Birdy).

The second series, which will contain six hour-long episodes, is expected to air later this year.
