You know you’ve made it when you end up on The Simpsons.

Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee had that very experience recently when an inquisitive Simpsons fan spotted an ice cream parlour called ‘Dairy Girls Ice Cream’ in a recent episode of the long-running cartoon.

The Twitter account, called Wikisimpsons, quizzed producer Matt Selman about whether ‘Dairy Girls’ was indeed a reference to the Irish comedy.

Matt confirmed the title of the ice cream shop was a little nod to Derry Girls, and it left DG writer Lisa completely stunned.

In response to Matt’s confirmation, Lisa simply wrote: “I. Am. dead.”

It didn’t end there though, as Matt also took the time to reply to Lisa’s speechlessness, adding: “It’s the least we could do!”

The incredible moment comes just after the first trailer for Derry Girls series three dropped for fans to enjoy.

Channel released the sneak peak at the smash-hit comedy, and it looks as though Erin, Orla, Michelle, Clare and James are up to even more mischief.

The broadcaster is keeping schtum about when to the actual release date, and simply stated the final episodes are coming ‘soon’.

The teaser showed all actors back at Our Lady Immaculate College, including Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Louisa Harland and Dylan Llewellyn.

The new look at series three also introduces newcomer, Brassic star Damien Molony, who appears to play a plumber hired to do work for the Quinn family.

The series description reads: “While there's hope in the air that The Troubles may finally be over, their troubles are only just getting started as they get even closer to 'adulthood'."

Fans are already going wild for the first peek at the new series, with one writing on Twitter: “DERRY GIRLS S3 TRAILER IS OUT I CANNOT BREATHE”, while another said: “Just made the household watch the Derry Girls trailer on the big telly to give it the respect it deserves.”
