The Channel 5 soap Neighbours has given fans a first look at the return of Harold Bishop as the iconic show prepares for its final few months on air before being axed.

Before we say goodbye to the soap for good, Neighbours recently celebrated its 37th anniversary and, as a treat, gave viewers a glimpse at one of its most beloved characters, Harold Bishop.

In the short clip, a selection of Neighbours stars wished the show a happy birthday. The likes of Charlotte Chimes (Nicolette), Richie Morris (Levi), Takaya Honda (David) and Gemma Bird Matheson (Kiri) all appeared in the video, including Neighbours legend Lucinda Cowden (Melanie).

The best part came at the end of the clip, however, with actor Ian Smith- who plays Harold Bishop on the show- making an appearance.

In the video, he says fondly: “Happy birthday Neighbours, on your 37th birthday!”.

The comments under the post were full of fans of the soap excited to see the return of their beloved Harold but sad that the show was coming to an end.

One person wrote: “Great to see Ian Smith, aka Harold Bishop back again. The second time returning on screen for a show finale as he did that for Prisoner CBH in the very same studios. Let's hope Neighbours finale will be a blip and the show returns very soon. #SaveNeighbours”.

Another said: “Brilliant to see Harold back, but the thought of Neighbours ending makes me tearful.”

A third wrote: “Happy Birthday #Neighbours 37 wonderful years 🎉🎉. Lovely to see Harold again ❤”.

Those of you who have watched Neighbours since the beginning will certainly know who Harold is.

He first joined the soap back in 1987 and became a firm favourite with fans after some pretty incredible storylines.

One of the most memorable for Harold was when he got lost at sea and was presumed dead before eventually turning up and reuniting with his wife Madge (Anne Charleston).

It still makes us well up!

His last scene on the soap was in 2015 after making a comeback for the 30th birthday episode of the show. Now, he is returning once more after news that fans will be saying goodbye to Ramsay Street once and for all.

The soap is expected to air its final episodes in August.

Neighbours airs Weekdays at 5:30pm on Channel 5.
