Get ready Geralt fans - Henry Cavill is back on set as The Witcher series 3 begins production.

In a teasing look at the cast on set, Henry, who plays Gerald of Rivia is sat next to Anya Chalotra, who stars as Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Princess Cirilla of Cintra actress Freya Allan.

The pic, released by Netflix, shows the first day of production, out on a snowy tundra, which overlooks an icy lake and idyllic forest.

Not wanting to give too much away, Netflix revealed the official synopsis for the upcoming series, writing: “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.

“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

We don’t yet know when the latest series will hit the streaming service, but if cameras have just started rolling, and to follow on from the previous two series’, season 3 may be released in December this year.

The Witcher, which is based on the book franchise of the same now, has proved hugely popular since it started streaming on Netflix back in 2019, but when series 2 dropped last year, a number of fans took issue with one thing in particular.

The first season of the fantasy series was criticised by some people for being a little too complicated with regard to its non-linear structure and multiple timelines, with many viewers finding it somewhat disorientating.

When asked whether he thought the ciritism was fair, lead actor Henry said "I think fair. Absolutely fair.”

Speaking to Digital Spy, he continued: “It's tough to keep track of those things, especially when you're following three different characters. Even if you know the lore, it's two of the characters in a completely original story. To keep up with it is tricky.”

The star actor added that season two is less complex. “I think it's a bit more clear. And I think that's a good thing,” he said.
