Wednesday could become Netflix’s most-watched English language series ever

Addams Family series, Wednesday, could become Netflix’s next most-watched English language series in the streaming services’ history. 

The Tim Burton Addams Family revival show is currently number one on the Top 10 on Netflix’s rankings over the last seven days, but is now third in the total number of hours watched in the show’s first 28 days.

According to Netflix’s rankings Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega in the gothic titular role, has a total of 752 million hours watched since it started airing on 23rd November. 

Wednesday isn’t too far behind the second place spot, which is currently held by Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story with 856 million views.

Number one is still held by the mammoth series four release of Stranger Things, which had 1.35 billion views within its first 28 days. 

While that hefty number feels quite far away, it turns out Wednesday is having a more successful second week than Stranger Things, who led their second week with 621.8 million, meaning Wednesday is ahead by 130.7 million. So there’s a good chance it may continue to climb up those rankings to reach number one. 

The exciting viewership news comes after Wednesday showrunner Miles Millar revealed the plans for Wednesday series two. 

Turns out that if there is a season 2, the rest of the family - Morticia, Uncle Fester, etc - will have a bigger part to play next time around... but not too big.

“We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters," Millar told TVLine. "The actors are so amazing in those roles. Catherine [Zeta-Jones] is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important."

Naturally, the showrunners “really want to focus the show on Wednesday,” but Millar adds they “definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season.”

Alongside Ortega, Luiz Guzmán plays Gomez Addams and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Morticia. Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1990s film adaptations, also features as one of Wednesday’s teachers.
