It'll land in UK and Irish cinemas from Friday, March 10th.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, a horror retelling of A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard's Winnie-the-Pooh books, has finally been given a UK release date.
With a US release date now set as next Wednesday (February 15th) for one day only, Rhys Frake-Waterfield's directorial debut is officially coming to UK and Irish cinemas from Friday, March 10th, following a sold-out premiere screening at FrightFest Glasgow.
After that, it'll be available on DVD, Blu-ray and other digital platforms in the spring.
"During childhood, Christopher Robin befriended Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and their friends, played games and fed them. But as he grew older, the visits stopped, leaving them increasingly hungry and desperate, eyeing Eeyore as food," reads the film's synopsis.
"Now Christopher has returned to the forest with his new wife hoping to introduce her to his old friends. But it sends Pooh and Piglet on a murderous scavenger hunt for human flesh when they antagonise a group of college girls on a rural cabin vacation. Will Christopher still get Pooh back on the right track?"
Frake-Waterfield elaborated more on the premise to Huffington Post.
"[Pooh and Piglet] had had to fend for themselves so much, they've essentially become feral," he told the publication. "So they've gone back to their animal roots. They're no longer tame: they're like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey."
First announced on May 24th, 2022, the film came about after the 1926 Winnie-the-Pooh book entered the public domain in the United States on January 1st, 2022.
The characters' rights had been owned by The Walt Disney Company since 1966. The Mouse House retain the rights to their versions of the characters - but not these homicidal versions!
Waterfield is also reportedly working on a horror-based take on another fairytale classic, Peter Pan, titled Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare, as well as a sequel to Blood and Honey.
