Back to the Future icon Michael J. Fox made a surprise guest appearance during Coldplay’s epic headline performance at Glastonbury.

The actor played guitar on two songs, including the classic track, Fix You, to an enraptured crowd on Saturday night (29th June).

During 1985 family/sci-fi adventure, Back to the Future, Fox’s character, Marty McFly, famously played Jonny B. Goode on guitar at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, which is a pivotal moment in the final act.

Introducing their special guest ahead of the song Humankind, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said: “With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox.”

Fox - who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease back in 1991 and was in a wheelchair for his performance with Coldplay - remained onstage for Fix You.

As the song reached its conclusion, Martin said: “The main reason we’re in a band is because of Back to the Future. So thank you to Michael, our hero.”

Coldplay - who made history at Worthy Farm by headlining for the fifth time - also brought out rapper Little Simz earlier in the show.

Elsewhere, there were more surprise guests, as Blur’s Damon Albarn joined Bombay Bicycle Club during their set, and Paul Heaton delighted fans of The Housemartins by getting his former bandmate Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) up on stage for a performance of Happy Hour. Watch that one here.
