The penultimate episode of Celebrity Race Across The World has teed up an exciting final episode, as the teams battle to reach the end first.

After last week’s episode saw radio presenter Scott Mills and husband Sam Vaughan reach the checkpoint ahead of the others for the first time, the latest instalment (11th September) took the teams from Tigre, on the banks of the Paraná River, high into the far north of Argentina and 2,500 metres above sea level, to the 10,000-year-old mountain town of Tilcara.

Traversing almost half the length of Argentina in under four days caused the pairs’ budgets to come under increasing pressure.

Last week, Ted Lasso’s Kola Bokinni temporarily lost his passport, but this week he and cousin Mary Ellen made it to the checkpoint ahead of the rest of the teams for the first time.

Despite experiencing mega delays in episode four, TV star Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy came in second this time round, just seven minutes later.

They were first last week, but Scott and Sam dropped down to third this week, but only 15 minutes behind the leaders.

This meant that broadcaster Kelly Brook and husband Jeremy Parisi are in last position, but are still  just 39 minutes behind the leading pair.

This all sets up an exciting final episode next Wednesday (18th September).

Fans took to social media to express their excitement about the series two finale. One wrote: “The difference between the first and last teams at the beginning of this leg was about 14 hours. Now it’s about 35 minutes. That gap has been nicely narrowed. It’s all to play for in the final leg next week.”

Another added: “Looking forward to next week's final. I've got my fingers crossed for Jeff and Freddy #CelebrityRaceAcrossTheWorld 🌍”

Someone else wrote: “They’re practically in a dead heat starting the last leg, this is going to be great!”

Kola and Mary Ellen have also spoken exclusively with virginradio.co.uk about just how competitive the show’s celebrity couples can be.

During the episode, Kola opened up about the death of his father. He said: "Last year wasn't the best year for me. I lost my dad. It was a long road. He had dementia for three years. It took everything from him. It was extremely stressful, going to set and then coming back to look after my dad. I think, out of all our family members, I was the last one that he remembered. And then, nothing. Heartbreaking.”

He added: “I like to believe he's at peace now. He's not alone, he's not in the dark anymore, because that's what the disease does to you. It puts you in the dark."

On taking part in Celebrity Race Across The World, the actor said: “I do miss him. When this opportunity came up, it was a chance to disconnect and, in a sense, heal a little bit.”
